Are cheap event booking / appointment calls worth it?

If you sell cars your probably run showroom events. “Man from the Factory”, “Man from the Bank”, “Double Discount”, “Blue Label”, “Premium Ticket”, “VIP”.

Often pushed by the manufacturer the normal process is that you provide the data to a.n. other third party who makes the customer calls for you to book showroom appointments.

Great. But are the results what you expect? What do you get for your money?

Register for FREE and we will send you a telemarketing script that has been proven to work for retailers right across the country.

But is it cheap?

Some of the offers from telemarketing companies look really attractive. £1.25 a record. Blimey thats cheap! (And this might look more like £1.40 in 2023)

But is it too cheap? Does that mean they aren’t doing what you expect?

Two minutes. Lets have a look at the maths

What’s an experienced caller cost?

Rounding down, to make the maths easier, lets say, £24,000 a year as a minimum.

That’s £500 a week, after holidays.

£100 a day.

Calling for 7 hours, with lunch break etc

That’s over £14 an hour.

From 25 years experience we know that they will actually speak to 8-9 real people per hour.

Do the maths.

That’s over £1.55 per person spoken to.

So how can you sell it for £1.25

So what am I paying for?

Well, you are paying by the number of records.

If you can’t get through to a customer, its faster.

And they don’t have time to go back and call again and again the records that didn’t pick up.

There is no money for that!

So am I being ripped off?

Not really. You’re probably not getting what you expect. But then the telemarketing industry has been selling the service like this for years.

Plus £1.25 sounds cheap.

So what should I do?

Well you can keep going. Cymark has two pricing models, just for those sites that can’t get past the – “I want the cheapest per record rate”.

But we also have a more sensible rate, that is based upon the time we know it takes to make the calls properly.

Ok, so it’s not £1.25 a ‘record’, instead this price plan only charges you when we actually speak to a real person.

You pay for the caller. You pay for the typist / editor that puts all the information in a database.

And you pay us a little bit of profit.

But that’s it.

You get ALL of the data back.

Even customers that aren’t interested today, but are expecting to be interested in a few months.

You get it all back.

And does that work?

Well, I would say ‘yes.’ And you would expect that.

But we have been working exclusively with the Motor Trade since 1995. We know how to make these calls.

We know what works. We know what doesn’t.

What if I only have a few hundred records?

Ideal. If I was a ‘previously described’ call centre I really want you to have 3,500 records. That way I can charge nearly £4,500 for the pleasure.

No wonder they say and event cost over £10,000 now!

And for your £4,500 how many appointments would you expect. And then have a ‘good event’?

90? 110?

Ok, let’s pick 100. That’s £45 per appointment.

So don’t you charge that?

If you sent us 750 records, and we tried it all week, chasing and chasing, but only managed to speak to 2/3 of them.

If we spoke to just 500 people we would make between 50 and 60 appointments.

It is nearly always 10%-12% of the number of records we are given. Ball park.

And we would only charge you, for only the ones we actually spoke to.

On those numbers we would charge around £1,925. For 500 ‘spoken to people’

That’s £35 per appointment.

22% cheaper than everyone else.

You’re going to need to explain that!

Not a problem. As you can appreciate, a web page probably isn’t the easiest way to explain this. But we can call you back, or send you some information.

Simply register your details below and we will send you some examples and an overview of the whole process.

We will even do you a quote at the cheaper rate if you need us to!

Any catch? I don’t want pestering.

Not really. But I would ask you to seriously think about only being charged when someone is spoken to.

Who is likely to try harder. Someone who only has a few hundred records, but wants to speak to as many real people as possible before they invoice you. (Cymark)

Or someone who has already invoiced you the full amount. For all the records, all the duplicates, all those customers that never answer the phone. But will now make more profit if they don’t speak to them all.

Worth thinking about.

Cymark will send over some details of how our event telemarketing programme works and is costed.

It’s not a secret and is used by manufacturers, dealer groups and individual franchised retailers across the country.

Only paying for people we have spoken to has got to be the most sensible way to do this.
